Studio 101 West wins a Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) Design Award for a digital book design!

Digital books aren’t new, but winning a prestigious award for one is one-in-8,000! In the past, we designed large product catalogs distributed through mass mailings. Today, getting your product information into the hands of potential clients usually means digital formats transmitted through bits and bytes—something we don’t even give much thought to anymore.

We are excited to announce that we won an American Graphic Design Award from GDUSA for the digital book design for J. W. Design & Construction, Inc. (JWDCI). The most exciting part of this win is that it showcases Dennis Swanson’s exceptional architectural photography! Of course, JWDCI’s buildings are always beautiful, but Dennis knows how to make architecture smile.

Over 8,000 entries were received for this year’s 61st GDUSA design contest, but only 10 percent were recognized as winners. Studio 101 West was one of those 10 percent!

We formatted this book to be shown digitally as a flip book. As a result, the page turns like a printed book when clicking the right or left arrows. In addition, we printed several high-resolution “coffee-table” books so potential clients could hold the weight of work produced by JWDCI.

The Perfect Team

Cataloging decades of building projects has been our goal since partnering with JWDCI in the early 90s—when we shot 4×5 film. Half of the experience we bring to the table is that of a talented architectural photographer with unending customer loyalty, Dennis Swanson. Team that talent up with graphic designer Deborah Swanson, who loves organizing (aka spreadsheets) and creating designs that communicate clearly and effectively. Now, you have the perfect team that can shoot, organize, catalog, and present a stellar portfolio of your life’s work. Well, at least 25+ years of your business’s life!

J.W. Design & Construction works with notable architects and developers to bring their designs and ideas into existence. JWDCI works in all aspects of construction and is responsible for many of the large-scale buildings in San Luis Obispo County. From groundbreaking wine caves in northern Paso Robles to multi-story hotels in San Luis Obispo to luxury auto dealerships in San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield, they are always at the top of the list to build the next commercial building in our county.
