A significant number of our clients fall into the Health & Wellness category, and I enjoy creating effective designs for products that enhance our lives. Perhaps that is why I have so many clients in that segment of business. I never went out to find that kind of work. It found me. But I am glad it did.
Today, Studio 101 West is ranked in the top 10% of entries for the 25th Anniversary, Graphic Design USA Health & Wellness Design Awards. Not once. Not twice. But thrice… In other words, we won for THREE projects this year!
Award Winning Logo Design

First, I was honored to work with the San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department, specifically with the team responsible for the SLO Opioid Safety Coalition. We improved their branding to encompass all aspects of drug safety and addiction, as well as the resources the coalition provides in our county. The most consequential drug threat to San Luis Obispo County right now is fentanyl, and the coalition brings together data and resources while partnering with first responders, businesses, schools, government, and the public to share this vital information. Their primary goal for this new logo was that it be welcoming, not judgmental or harsh. The goal is to be a place where anyone can find the help they need. I think that really comes through in this design.
I’m thrilled GDUSA honored this logo with a Health & Wellness Award. Not just because I love this logo, but because the SLO Opioid Safety Coalition is a very worthy program in the community where I live.
Award Winning Assisted Living Marketing

Next, we designed this billboard, which highlights Rose Care Group’s newest assisted living facility, Cuesta Rosa, in San Luis Obispo. This billboard was relocated to various locations in San Luis Obispo over 12 months. We’re proud of this award-winning billboard, which showcases a real resident and caregiver while showcasing our photography and design in a big way.
I’m proud to serve as a graphic and web designer for over 14 assisted living facilities, creating a wide range of materials, including logos, websites, brochures, and advertisements. We aim to reflect the excellence of care, the premium facility design, and the genuine kindness of their staff. We recognize that most people making decisions about assisted living are most likely in crisis. We want to communicate well and clearly with these individuals.
As the designer, I curate all the photography that Dennis takes of the people and the buildings’ interior and exterior spaces. This makes us the ideal team for this senior lifestyle marketing niche. This is an aggressively growing business, especially on the Central Coast. Retired seniors make up a large segment of the population, second only to the influx of college students. In addition to assisted living facilities, we collaborate with physicians and nurses specializing in geriatric medicine, as well as home health and hospice organizations.
Award-Winning Package Design

Lastly, who doesn’t want a perfect night’s sleep!? I certainly do. I team up with Danican, in Denmark, to bring consumers in South Korea many perfect nights of sleep. Packaging design is one of my favorite types of graphic design. I love designing and creating a three-dimensional box that people can pick up, flip around, and rotate. Pursuading a purchase without being able to stand next to it shouting, “BUY ME!” is very rewarding. Of course, as a U.S.-based design firm, designing products for sale in a different country is always a challenge. My client is in Denmark, and their client (and customer) is in South Korea. Good design crosses international boundaries, and the universal need for sleep works in our favor.
This pillow packaging is another win for Studio 101 West in the 2025 GDUSA Health & Wellness Design Awards. Since packaging design is one of my favorite things to do and sleeping is my superpower, I couldn’t be happier to win this award, all on a good night’s sleep!
