Big Design – Part 1

Recently, I had the privilege of creating two large-scale design projects (at the same time): one for Rose Care Group and the other for personal pleasure. This is part 1 – Rose Care Group. You can find part 2 here.

The Billboard

Our long-time client, Rose Care Group, asked us to design and produce a large-scale billboard project highlighting their newest Assisted Living facility, Cuesta Rosa Residence, in San Luis Obispo. Like all their new facilities, we were brought in at the beginning stages of construction to start branding. We designed the award-winning Cuesta Rosa logo and then designed the building signage and a monument sign.

Studio 101 West also does all of Rose Care Group’s Architectural and Lifestyle Photography. We spend several days shooting exterior and interior photography and then add a mix of real-life people (non-models) doing life. We love to use non-models to create a genuine atmosphere for their residences. In addition to the logo design and photography, we designed their printed brochure and a corporate website connected to all the individual facility websites.

We LOVE this holistic approach to marketing, where we can design and oversee everything in their brand to stay consistent yet show the uniqueness of each residence. Designing a billboard, however, was their first large-scale advertising project. I love how bright and engaging it came out. Great photography and simple design make this project a brilliant success. Did you know you only have 3-10 seconds to communicate your information on a billboard? It has to be simple!

Both large-scale projects were challenging but fun (see Part 2). Creating a billboard and seeing it larger-than-life along the road or highway is very rewarding. Bringing business to my client is a BIG success!
